CTA Construction Managers recently completed the new Bresnahant Elementary School in Newburyport
Newburyport, MA, October 31, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The new Bresnahan Elementary School, an environmentally friendly facility, recently opened after completion by CTA Construction, a leader in green buildings in Massachusetts.
The 112,000-square-foot elementary school features superior energy performance and up to a 40 percent reduction in water use compared to similarly sized schools. CTA utilized construction materials that are renewable resources, produced in the region, and have low emission of volatile organic compounds.
"CTA Construction is a leader in green building, and we use our expertise to find the environmentally friendly products our clients want to build quality facilities. The Bresnahan Elementary School offered CTA an opportunity to strengthen our commitment to green building and provide a state-of-the-art educational facility for the children of Newburyport," said Patrick Tompkins, principal of CTA Construction, based in Waltham, Mass., and online at www.ctacontruction.com.

The Bresnahan School construction project participated in the Massachusetts Collaborative for High Performance Schools. It utilized wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and 90 percent of all waste generated during construction was recycled.
Designed by HMFH Architets, Inc., the $28.2 million elementary school participated in the state’s Model School Program that incorporates successful elements from existing schools into the design of new facilities. The new facility, with 660 students in grades K-3, was built next to the previous Bresnahan School, which dates to 1956 and suffered from problems with mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as structural defects. With completion of the new facility, the former Bresnahan School will be demolished.
CTA Construction recently placed 82nd on a list of the Top 100 Green Building Contractors published by Engineering News-Record magazine. In 2013, CTA’s green revenue topped $116 million, or 84 percent of total revenues.
CTA is a leading construction manager in the academic market, many of which are designed with sustainable elements and to meet the LEED for Schools standards. In addition to academic facilities, CTA’s portfolio includes office, municipal and college buildings, commercial space, public safety facilities, and residential developments.
